One critical aspect of our comprehensive care is overdose prevention, and we’re proud to offer free access to Narcan to help save lives.
Narcan, also known as naloxone, is a life-saving medication used to reverse opioid overdoses. It’s a crucial tool in the fight against the opioid epidemic, and at JADE Wellness Center, we believe that everyone should have access to this vital resource. Our team is dedicated to empowering our clients and their loved ones with the knowledge and tools needed to respond effectively in case of an overdose.
By providing free Narcan access, we are taking a proactive approach to harm reduction and overdose prevention. We aim to reduce the risks associated with substance use, creating a safer and more compassionate environment for our community.
Although any opioid use can lead to overdose, some factors that may increase overdose risk include:
- Combining opioids with alcohol or other drugs (such as benzodiazepines)
- Taking a high daily dosage of opioids
- Taking more opioids than prescribed by a physician
- Taking illegal opioids that could contain unknown substances
- Having sleep apnea, impaired hepatic or renal function.
- Slowed or shallow breathing (or no breathing)
- Pinpoint pupils (small, constricted pupils)
- Falling asleep
- Loss of consciousness
- Choking or gurgling
- Skin that is pale, blue, and/or cold
What is Naloxone?
Naloxone is an opioid antagonist. Instead of counterbalancing symptoms like Epinephrine (EpiPen) to overcome the effects of an extreme allergic reaction, naloxone blocks the brain’s uptake of opioids by replacing them.
Naloxone does not treat overdoses of non-opioid medications, and it does not have an effect on someone who has not taken opioids.
